Mr. Kirby is serving Lake Orion Community Schools as the superintendent after his selection as the LOCS Superintendent by a unanimous 7-0 vote at the board meeting on Monday, June 29, 2020. He has successfully led the district while educating students during the pandemic. The district has supported approximately 7,000 learners in-person, remotely, and virtually.
Previously an assistant superintendent in South Lyon Community Schools since January 2018, Mr. Kirby was responsible for all aspects of Human Resources and Public Relations and overseeing the Transportation and Athletic Departments.
Before joining South Lyon, Mr. Kirby worked as an associate superintendent in Ionia Public Schools from July 2007 – January 2018. His job included oversight of human resources, professional development, communications, operations, and school improvement for Ionia. Mr. Kirby's administrative career began as an assistant principal in 1998, which led to a principalship at Ionia Middle School and Ionia High School.
Mr. Kirby earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education from Michigan State University, a master's in educational leadership from Western Michigan University, and an educational specialist degree in educational leadership from Grand Valley State University.
